This guide applies to the APEX 500, APEX 700, APEX 1200, APEX 2000, APEX 4000, and APEX 6500.

Four warning signs: Rotating fan blades may injure, hazardous voltage inside, some parts flammable, and do not run pump dry.
Important Reminder: Safety First!
Before you start maintenance on your Portacool APEX™ evaporative cooler, disconnect the power by unplugging the cord from the outlet. Always perform maintenance in a safe area.
Regular Maintenance
1. Drain the Reservoir Weekly. To ensure your cooler operates efficiently, drain the water reservoir at least once a week. This helps minimize odors caused by stagnant water. Remove the drain cap and allow all the water to drain out. Check inside the reservoir for any dirt, debris, or scale buildup, and clean as needed. When replacing the drain cap, ensure it is hand-tightened but not overly tightened.

2. Clean the HydroTek™ Media. To maintain optimal performance, periodically clean the evaporative media to remove dirt, debris, or scale buildup. Use clean water from a hose with a spray nozzle and a soft-bristle brush to gently clean the outer edges of the media. For more detailed cleaning instructions, refer to our online product support page.

3. Address Hard Water Issues. If your water quality is affected by hard water, you can purchase Portacool Hard Water Treatment™ from Part and Accessories or from an authorized distributor. This treatment modifies the ionic structure of minerals in your water, preventing them from accumulating on the media. It enhances cooling efficiency, prevents scale buildup, reduces equipment corrosion, and prolongs the life of your media.

Proper Storage
1. Drain and Clean. Before storing your Portacool, completely drain the water from the tank and wipe it clean. Ensure that both the HydroTek™ media and the tank are completely dry to prevent mold or mildew buildup.

2. Secure the Power Cord. Roll up the power cord and attach it to the cord wrap to prevent tripping hazards or damage to the cord.

3. Cover and Store. To protect your Portacool from dust buildup and potential damage, cover it completely and store it in a dry area. Optional protective covers are available from your distributor or at www.portacool.com/shop.

Following these simple steps will keep your APEX evaporative cooler running smoothly and prolong its lifespan. For further assistance or if you have questions, please refer to our online support resources or contact our Customer Care team.
