Kicking-Off National Safety Month

Did you know that June is National Safety Month? We scratched the surface of what National Safety Month means to us in our previous blog, but we want to dive a little deeper into the impact of safety at our own facilities. Observed annually, National Safety Month focuses on reducing the leading causes of injury and death at work, on the road, and in our homes and communities. The National Safety Council established the month-long celebration in 1996, aiming to increase awareness of the leading safety and health risks and ultimately decrease the number of unintentional injuries and deaths in the United States. They continue to lead the charge by providing resources that highlight a different safety topic for each week.

The National Safety Council has announced their weekly safety topics for 2019. They are:

As the leader in global evaporative cooling technologies, Portacool makes safety a priority in our East Texas plant. We know the impact that safety hazards can have on a work environment, especially extreme heat. That’s why we make products that combat the effects of heat stress and heat illness, and we use them to keep our own employees safe. But our safety protocols don’t end there.

Outside of utilizing evaporative coolers to keep employees comfortable, we also prioritize safety training. It’s important to us that our employees know not only what they should be doing, but what they should do if things don’t go the way they plan. We take all of our employees, new and experienced, through extensive safety training. We designate line leads and give them the responsibility of monitoring their team members and the power to make decisions to ensure their safety. We also have weekly safety topics that range from first aid to pedestrian traffic to hazardous communication that we cover to educate employees on how to stay safe, both inside and outside of the plant.

Follow along with us as we celebrate National Safety Month with weekly blog posts that correspond to the National Safety Council’s featured topics. Do you want to know how to get involved? Below are a couple of tips to get you started.
